Adelphi University is trending.

We’ve had a banner year, from an upswing in early applications to a six-place increase in the U.S. News & World Report National Universities Rankings. Students and families across the country are discovering Adelphi’s many advantages.

Kristen Capezza, M.B.A. ’12, associate vice president for enrollment management, attributes the change to a paradigm shift. “Students are starting to see how we can really personalize an education for them,” she explained. “They can have a unique, transformative experience here, not something cookie-cutter or out of a box.”

Adapting to students’ wants and needs is a cornerstone of Adelphi’s strategic plan. With small classes, hands-on learning and innovative ways to support students, Adelphi is committed to creating an education tailored to each and every student. “When we recruit, we make that incredibly clear,” Capezza said.

When a student meets with an admissions counselor and states an interest in science, for example, the counselor will use that interest as a base, then create the student’s individualized experience using additional building blocks based on available courses, programs, events and services.

With programs like Levermore Global Scholars, the Honors College and the McDonell Fellowship for summer science research, Adelphi is dedicated to high-impact learning. But thriving academically isn’t the only priority here—we encourage students to grow as citizens, leaders and engaged individuals. We offer a wide variety of services that support students on their paths to success, such as Bridges to Adelphi (for students who self-disclose with autism spectrum disorder or other nonverbal learning disorders), the Veteran Resource Center and distance learning.

While Adelphi’s strongest presence has always been in the New York metropolitan area, recent changes in admissions strategy have expanded its draw nationwide. “Given the breadth and the strength of our programs, we have a lot to offer students from regional and national markets,” Capezza said.

Last fall, Adelphi welcomed its largest and most diverse first-year class in its history—proof that word is getting out and that students and families are seeking Adelphi’s signature approach to education.

The diversity of Adelphi students’ backgrounds enriches the entire population’s overall experience, Capezza maintains, which fosters dialogue and awareness.

Learning at Adelphi happens everywhere, from the classroom to the residence hall and the dining hall. “We want students to dive in headfirst and deeply immerse themselves in everything we offer,” said Capezza.
